2005, tube technical glass / Pyrex
A disposable thin-walled cup elevated, with the use of a stem and transparent material, to the level of the wine glass. Sarcastic three-dimensional comment on the period of social events where major values are discussed over wine in plastic cups.
Maxim Velčovský was born in 1976. He completed his studies at Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. In 2002 he co-founded Qubus Design Studio - already very well-known czech design studio with iconic art works of ceramic and glass. In 2007 he won the Designer of the Year award. Velčovský mainly works with the concept of transforming objects from their usual materials to porcelain and glass. He often gives a new sense to old objects and he calls this process "restarting". He has taken part in dozens of exhibitions and his works are included in, e.g. the collections of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, the Victoria&Albert Museum in London, the Neue Pinakothek in Munich or the Mudac in Lausanne. Nowadays he is a head of the Ceramics and Porcelain Atelier at Fine Arts Academy in Prague.
